Annette Haywood-Carter

Annette Haywood-Carter is a Part-Time Lecturer in the Department of Cinematic Arts at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), within the College of the Arts. With an extensive professional film career transitioning into academia, she brings industry expertise to her teaching role.

Haywood-Carter began her directing career with The Foot Shooting Party starring Leonardo DiCaprio, which received significant industry attention. She later directed Foxfire, where she discovered Angelina Jolie for the lead role - a film widely credited with launching Jolie's career. Her other notable works include the TV movie Love is Strange and feature film Savannah starring Sam Shepard and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

She co-created the Film & Television program at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), developing curriculum and teaching directing, screenwriting, and production. From 2015-2019, she chaired Film & Digital Media at Idyllwild Arts Academy, developing a program NPR's All Things Considered called 'The Juilliard of Young Filmmakers.'

As an active industry professional, she founded 22 WHITESTONE film & television development company in 2012 and maintains membership in the Directors Guild of America, Writers Guild of America, Women in Film, and Film Fatales while teaching the next generation of filmmakers at CSULB.
