Anne Kinney is a Professor of Chinese in the Department of East Asian Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Virginia. Her research focuses on early Chinese literature, thought, and social history, with specializations in the history of childhood and women in premodern China. She is the author of several influential books, including Exemplary Women of Early China: The Lienü zhuan of Liu Xiang (2014), The Establishment of the Han Empire and Imperial China (2005), and Chinese Views of Childhood (1995). Her work bridges literary analysis with historical and cultural studies, offering critical insights into premodern Chinese society.
