About
Annabel Wilson serves as a Research Fellow in Reparative Studies of Education at the University of Oxford's Department of Education. Previously affiliated with Goldsmiths, University of London for the Surviving Storms hurricane recovery project and King's College London for the Understanding Colourism Amongst Young People initiative, her current work centers on the ERC/UKRI-funded REPAIR-ED project (2023-2028), conducting ethnographic research with Bristol primary school communities to address structural educational inequities through reparative justice frameworks.
Her research critically examines how race is learned and negotiated through social interactions, with emphasis on racialized subjectivity development among Black 'mixed race' youth, reparative educational futures, and colourism. This intersects with analyses of gender, class, and life course sociology within educational contexts, extending to community recovery from disasters and institutional dynamics in academia.
Wilson's publications—including the 2024 co-authored book "Blackness at the Intersection" and her 2021 article on working-class feminist academics—demonstrate consistent engagement with intersectional theory, critiques of neoliberal academia, and structural inequity in education. Her work synthesizes Black feminist scholarship with empirical community research to envision transformative educational practices.
As lead researcher on the £2.5M REPAIR-ED grant, she facilitates dialogues between schools, policymakers, and communities to translate ethnographic findings into actionable reparative strategies, positioning her at the forefront of justice-oriented educational research in the UK.
