Anna Schaefer

Dr. Anna Schaefer is a Researcher in the Department of Musicology at the Faculty of Philosophy II, Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. She has served as a research assistant since October 2015 and completed her doctorate in 2022 on music culture during National Socialism.

Her research focuses on German choral music history (19th-20th centuries), with particular emphasis on National Socialist-era cultural politics and emotional historiography. Current projects include:

• Choral associations under National Socialism
• Jewish participation in choral activities
• Political use of song festivals
• Ego-document analysis
• Repertoire studies (1900-1950)

She contributes to academic discourse through interdisciplinary approaches combining musicology with social and political history.
