Anna Reczyńska

Anna Reczyńska is a Full Professor at the Institute of American Studies and Polish Diaspora, Faculty of International and Political Studies, Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland. She is a distinguished historian specializing in Polish-Canadian relations, the Polish diaspora in Canada, immigration history, and multiculturalism. Her academic leadership includes being the Chair in Canadian Studies and a founding member of the Polish Association of Canadian Studies.

Her research interests include: the history of Canada, Polish emigration, ethnic relations in Canada, Canadian immigration policy, the history of the Polish diaspora, the impact of martial law in Poland on diaspora communities, and oral history. She has conducted extensive archival and field research, supported by grants from the Kosciuszko Foundation, the John F. Kennedy Institute, the University of Ottawa, and the Polish Senate, among others.

Her scholarly output reveals a consistent focus on Polish migration to Canada, identity formation in diaspora, and the role of institutions like the Catholic Church and the Canadian Polish Congress. Her recent publications explore gendered migration experiences, return migration, and the evolution of Polish communities in Canadian urban and regional contexts such as Montreal and British Columbia.

Among her scientific awards and recognitions are multiple international research grants and fellowships. She has been a member of the Polish Academy of Learning’s commission on the Polish Diaspora since 2007 and the Canadian-Polish Research Institute in Toronto since 2011.

She has supervised numerous research projects and mentored emerging scholars in diaspora studies. Her work bridges historical research with public engagement, particularly through exhibitions and conference contributions. She is actively involved in academic life, regularly presenting at national and international forums on Canadian studies and migration.

She leads and contributes to research teams and academic networks focused on Polish diaspora history, transnational migration, and Canadian multiculturalism. Her ongoing projects continue to document and interpret the complex legacies of Polish migration to North America.
