Anna Grinath

Anna Grinath serves as an Additional Instructor for the SEA-PHAGES program at Idaho State University, collaborating with Primary Instructor Michael Thomas since Spring 2022 through scheduled Spring 2026 sections. She teaches an in silico course focused on phage genomics and bioinformatics using Microbacterium foliorum and Microbacterium testaceum host organisms.

Her research interests center on microbial genomics and computational biology, as evidenced by her role in guiding students through phage genome annotation and analysis. Course structures vary annually, with 9-15 enrolled students per semester (predominantly freshmen) meeting 1-2 times weekly for 3-4.5 hours of hands-on genomic training.

Over four completed semesters (2022-2025), Ms. Grinath has instructed approximately 39 undergraduate students in genomic methodologies. The program emphasizes
