Anna Gondek

Anna Gondek is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Applied Linguistics within the Institute of Germanic Philology at the University of Wrocław, where she has been employed since 1988. She serves as the Erasmus+ Program Coordinator at the institute since 1998 and maintains active academic engagement through consultations (USOSWEB) and upcoming conference organization.

Her educational foundation includes a Master's in Germanic Philology with Dutch specialization from the University of Wrocław (1978-1983), culminating in the thesis "The Dutch Period in the Works of Artur van Schendel." She earned her doctorate in 1996 with the dissertation "Sprichwörtliche Redensarten mit somatischen Komponenten im Deutschen und ihre polnischen Äquivalente" (Confrontative Phraseological Units with Somatic Components in German and their Polish Equivalents).

Dr. Gondek's research centers on phraseological patterns across German and Polish, with deep expertise in confrontative phraseology, paremiology (proverb studies), etymological motivations of phraseological units, and value-laden expressions in language. Her work critically examines linguistic taboos and euphemistic strategies through comparative lexicological frameworks, contributing to cross-linguistic understanding of cultural conceptualizations.

She actively participates in international scholarly networks as a member of the European Phraseological Society (Europhras) and has secured research funding for academic exchanges including scholarships in Freiburg, Berlin, and Marburg, plus research stays at Leipzig University. Her teaching extends through Erasmus+ collaborations in Ústí nad Labem, Budapest, and Brno. Since 1988, she has also practiced as a sworn translator for German and Dutch languages.
