Dr. Ann Fenech is the current President of the Comité Maritime International (CMI) since 2022, following her tenure as Vice President from 2018. She leads the marine litigation department at Fenech & Fenech Advocates and served as its Managing Partner from 2008 to 2020. A资深 maritime legal expert with 36 years of experience, she qualified in 1986 and has held roles at global firms like Holman Fenwick Willan (HFW) in London and Chaffe McCall in New Orleans before establishing Malta’s first dedicated marine litigation practice in 1992.
She lectures on maritime law at the University of Malta and the International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI), and has contributed to drafting key shipping laws, including amendments to Malta’s Merchant Shipping Act and civil procedure rules. Dr. Fenech is a former President of the Malta Maritime Law Association, a founding member of the Malta Maritime Forum, and has served on the board of the European Maritime Law Organisation since 2008.
Her leadership in international projects includes co-chairing CMI’s working group on judicial sales of ships, culminating in the 2022 Draft Convention approved by UNCITRAL. Her recent research focuses on emerging technologies in maritime transport, regulatory frameworks for autonomous ships, and social aspects of industry transformation.
