Angela S. Jacobs

Professor Angela S. Jacobs serves as a Professor and Graduate Coordinator at the School of Communication and Journalism at Eastern Illinois University. Her academic journey began with a BA and MA in Speech Communication from Eastern Illinois University (1993, 1996), culminating in a PhD in Speech Communication from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (2007).

Research Focus: Dr. Jacobs specializes in Family Communication and Interpersonal Communication, with particular emphasis on Suicide Awareness/Prevention and Communicating grief and bereavement. Her work bridges communication theory with practical applications in health, education, and media domains.

Publication Trends: Her research explores communication dynamics across diverse contexts: from police department crisis counseling (2014) to digital-age media workplace climates (2013), parent-teacher strategies (2012), and family identity in youth sports (2007). Recent work (2024) continues teaching communication pedagogy and intercultural communication.
