Professor Angela Marissa Nickerson is a Lecturer at the School of Psychology, UNSW Australia, and Director of the Refugee Trauma and Recovery Program. Her research investigates psychological mechanisms underlying refugee and post-conflict mental health, interventions for traumatic stress reactions, cross-cultural psychological processes, and the impact of policy on refugee populations. She has worked with refugee communities across Australia, Switzerland, the United States, and Timor Leste.
Prior to joining UNSW, she conducted post-doctoral research at Harvard University and Boston University, focusing on trauma responses to loss and stress. At UNSW, she trains therapists in the Master of Clinical Psychology program and lectures on topics including anxiety disorders, refugee mental health, and cross-cultural mental health considerations.
