Her educational background includes a B.S. in Chemistry and a minor in Biology from WLC (1999), a second undergraduate major in China Studies from WLC (2017), an M.S. and Ph.D. in Soil Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2001 and 2007), and a post-doctoral fellowship in Ecosystem Sciences at the University of California-Berkeley (2008).
Her research focuses on soil fertility, health, and water quality, particularly addressing phosphorus management in agriculture. Key goals include optimizing nutrient use to protect ecosystems, analyzing biosolids and manure recycling, and evaluating ecosystem services from crops and gardens. Her work bridges environmental stewardship and Christian faith, as seen in collaborative presentations like "Christianity and Science: God’s glory revealed in nature and scripture."
Recent articles highlight advancements in soil testing methods (e.g., Bray P1), FTIR spectroscopy for biosolids analysis, and paleoclimatology studies in the Atacama Desert. She also explores interdisciplinary topics such as Lutheran theology in academia. Angela has advised the Environmental Club (2009–2016) and the Young Women’s Science Program (2017–2020), and leads efforts in campus sustainability through biking advocacy as a member of the Wauwatosa Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.
