Angel Lizana Tutusaus is an Associate Professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and currently serves as the Head of the Optics Unit (2025–present). Previously, they served as General Secretary of the Spanish Optical Society (SEDOPTICA) from 2018 to 2023. They hold a doctoral degree from UAB, recognized with a Cum Laude evaluation, European Mention, and Extraordinary Doctorate Award for their work on Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) displays.
Education: PhD in Physics (UAB, 2011), postdoctoral research at École Polytechnique (Paris), and collaborations with institutions like Saint-Gobain Research and SOLEIL Synchrotron.
Research focuses on polarimetric methods for biophotonics, medical diagnostics, and agricultural applications. Key areas include Mueller matrix analysis, depolarization studies, and instrumentation for biomedical imaging. Over 67 indexed journal articles (h-index 25), 35 SPIE proceedings, and two patents. Active in funded projects, including co-leadership of three national projects and collaborations with industries like DENEb MEDICAL and SENER.
Teaching includes Optics and Electromagnetism courses across multiple UAB degree programs and the interuniversity photonics master’s program (UPC, UAB, UB, ICFO).
Awards include the Justiniano Casas Prize for Optical Image (2016 and 2024) and recognition for doctoral work. Current research emphasizes early disease detection in human and plant samples through advanced polarimetric techniques.
