About
David Reverter Cendros is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), where he leads the "Grup d'estructura i agregació de proteïnes" within the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine "Vicent Villar Palasi" (IBB).
His educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (1998)
- Master's in Biotechnology from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (1995)
- Degree in Biological Sciences from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (1993)
Before joining UAB faculty, Dr. Reverter completed postdoctoral research at prestigious institutions including Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (2004-2007), Weil Medical College of Cornell University (2002-2003), and Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (1999-2001).
Dr. Reverter's research focuses on protein structure and function, particularly in the areas of ubiquitin and SUMO modification pathways. His work combines structural biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology approaches to understand:
- Ubiquitin E3 ligase activity
- SUMO conjugation and deconjugation mechanisms
- Protein-protein interactions in post-translational modification systems
- Structural basis of enzyme specificity
- Protein aggregation and amyloidogenesis
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on the structural and functional characterization of the ubiquitin/SUMO pathway, with particular emphasis on enzyme specificity and regulation. The research spans from fundamental biochemical mechanisms to potential therapeutic applications in protein misfolding diseases.
Dr. Reverter has secured significant research funding, currently leading multiple projects including:
- "Structural and Functional Characterization of the Ubiquitin E3 Ligase Activity of the Smc5/6 Complex" (2024-2026)
- "Structural and Functional Insights into the Ubiquitin/SUMO Conjugation and Deconjugation Pathway" (2022-2025)
- Previous projects on SUMO modification in DNA repair processes and ubiquitin-like post-translational modifications
He has supervised 21 students and mentored numerous scholars throughout his career, contributing significantly to training the next generation of structural biologists and biochemists.
Dr. Reverter is a member of the "Grup d'estructura i agregació de proteïnes" at the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine, where his team employs cutting-edge structural biology techniques including X-ray crystallography to unravel complex protein modification systems.
