Andy Baker

Andy Baker is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Southern Cross University. He holds a BEnvSc(Hons) and PhD from SCU, completed in 2021. His work focuses on fire ecology, vegetation management, and ecological restoration, with over 25 years of consulting experience for government agencies.

Education:

• PhD: 'The ecological consequences of rainforest expansion into long-unburnt eucalypt forests in Eastern Australia' (SCU, 2016–2021)
• BEnvSc(Hons)

Research: Investigates fire regimes, biodiversity impacts of low-frequency fires, fire-mediated ecosystem stability, cultural burning revival, and wildfire effects in rainforests. Active in ecological restoration strategies and government advisory roles.

Teaching: Leads undergraduate courses in Fire Ecology & Management and Plant Biology, while supervising Masters students in fire ecology topics.
