About
Heidi Zimmer is an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Southern Cross University. Her work focuses on forest ecology, dendrochronology, and conservation biology, with expertise in tropical and temperate forest systems. She holds a BEnvSc (Hons) from Monash University and an MForEcoSc from the University of Melbourne.
Her research includes studies on tropical pine forests in northern Thailand, high-elevation Papua New Guinea forests, and the Wollemi pine—one of Australia’s most iconic threatened species. She conducted experimental translocation studies to establish Wollemi pine populations in new rainforest sites. Heidi also worked in Vietnam on steep slope degradation in mountainous regions and collaborated with the Arthur Rylah Institute on post-bushfire ecosystem recovery in Victoria.
Her interdisciplinary work bridges conifer ecology, fire ecology, and conservation strategies, emphasizing applied research for environmental management.
