Andrey Smirnov is a Part-Time Lecturer at the Berlin University of the Arts' Central Institute for Continuing Education and Transfer, and serves as an expert at MOMus Museum of Modern Art in Thessaloniki. He heads the Experimental Sound Laboratory (ESLab) and founded the Theremin Centre, while continuing to lecture and lead the Sound Laboratory at Moscow's Rodchenko Art School.
His research centers on electroacoustic music history, sound art archaeology, and early 20th century Russian/USSR experimental practices. He bridges historical music technology research with contemporary applications in sound design, physical computing, and interactive performance, emphasizing media archaeology's role in rediscovering forgotten sonic innovations.
