Andrew Proctor

Andrew Proctor is an Assistant Instructional Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago, affiliated with MAPSS, the Department of Political Science, and the Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality. His research examines intersections of sexuality, gender, race, and class within U.S. political institutions, focusing on how marginalized groups form identities and mobilize politically. He holds a PhD from Princeton University and has taught at Wake Forest University and the University of Minnesota.

Research Interests: Proctor studies the construction of LGBTQ political identities through activist-party interactions, focusing on how civil rights and libertarian frameworks shape partisan alignment. His book project Come Out Voting challenges conventional views of political parties as passive reflectors of group interests.
