Professor Andrew Porter is a Professor of Medical Biotechnology and Chair in Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of Aberdeen. He serves as Director of the Scottish Biologics Facility (SBF), which collaborates globally on antibody and biologics development for diagnostics and therapeutics. His research focuses on anti-microbials, cardiology, liver fibrosis, CNS diseases, and oncology, with a recent emphasis on shark VNAR-based biologics through the spin-out company Elasmogen Ltd (2016).
He holds non-executive board roles in Scottish biotechnology firms, including NovaBiotics (anti-infectives) and Antoxis (oncology/regenerative medicine). Previously, he founded Haptogen Ltd, acquired by Wyeth in 2007. His entrepreneurial achievements include the 2005 Ernst & Young award and co-owning award-winning cocktail bars, launching Langstane Liquor’s Porter’s Gin in 2015.
External roles include membership on the Royal Society of Edinburgh’s Commercialisation Fellowships Committee, Opportunity North East (ONE), and judging for the Converge Challenge. He was elected a Burgess of Guild Aberdeen in 2016.
Teaching responsibilities include postgraduate courses on Biologics Drug Discovery and Bio-Business.
