About
Jacobus Derksen is a Professor at the University of Aberdeen's School of Engineering (UK) with 20+ years of academic leadership in computational fluid dynamics and multiphase flow modeling. He has held professorial roles at Delft University of Technology (1992-2007), University of Alberta (2007-2013), and returned to Aberdeen since 2013. His lattice-Boltzmann short course trains postgraduate researchers in mesoscale simulations.
- PhD in Applied Physics (Eindhoven University of Technology, 1991)
- Editorial leadership: Chemical Engineering Research & Design (2015-2021), Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering (2014-2021)
His research focuses on meso-scale simulations of:
- Dense solid-liquid suspensions
- Non-Newtonian mixing
- Two-phase flow dynamics
- Particle shape effects in fluid systems
Professional roles include:
- Leader, Fluid Mechanics Research Group (2024-)
- Adjunct Professor at Beijing University of Chemical Technology (2015-)
- Visiting Professor at Beijing Institute of Technology (2025-)
