About
Dr Andrew Field is a Researcher at the University of Surrey, pursuing a PhD in Jurisprudence. His research focuses on rethinking criminal responsibility in light of neuroscientific insights, particularly addressing the tension between hard determinism and the need for moral responsibility frameworks. He holds a BA in Philosophy from the University of Birmingham, an MPhil in Philosophy from Birmingham, and an MSc in Neuroscience from King’s College London.
His work bridges Jurisprudence and Neuroethics, exploring how BCN (behavioural, chemical, and neuroscientific) sciences challenge traditional notions of free will. He argues for a dualistic framework reconciling scientific insights with societal moral accountability. His current research includes drafts on neuroscientific implications for legal culpability and postmodern interpretations of philosophical texts.
