Dr. Andrew Edwards is a Lecturer in the School of History at the University of St Andrews. He holds a PhD from Princeton University (2018) and a BA from Columbia University (2011). His research focuses on Early America, capitalism, and money, particularly the monetary transformations during the American Revolution. He has held fellowships at Brasenose College, Oxford, and the New School for Social Research. His current project, Money and the Making of the American Revolution, examines the intersection of political equality and economic systems in the founding era. His work appears in journals like Past & Present and Law & Social Inquiry.
Edwards previously worked as a baker, event producer, financial reporter, and foreign correspondent in China before entering academia. He supervises MA/PhD students on topics including the History of Capitalism and Global Economic History. He has contributed to the AHRC-funded Reframing the Age of Revolutions project and collaborates with global research networks. Outside academia, he enjoys hiking, freediving, and kite-flying with his family.
