Dustin W. Edwards is an Associate Professor in the Department of Rhetoric and Writing Studies at San Diego State University (SDSU), where he also directs the SDSU Writing Center. He holds a Ph.D. from Miami University and previously taught at the University of Central Florida. His research focuses on digital rhetoric, environmental rhetoric, and professional writing, particularly examining infrastructures of digital technologies and their environmental and colonial impacts. Edwards is a core member of the Global Rhetorics Initiative, a curriculum project addressing Border community writing needs.
Key publications include analyses of data center ethics, platform politics, and climate change rhetoric. His work has been recognized with awards such as an Honorable Mention for the 2020 Theresa J. Enos Anniversary Award and contributions to award-winning edited collections. Edwards’ scholarship bridges critical theory, environmental studies, and digital humanities, advocating for socially just rhetorical practices.
Outside academia, he enjoys hiking, ocean swimming, and questioning TV choices. His research and teaching emphasize intersectional technofeminism, labor ethics in digital spaces, and environmental justice.
