About
Andreas W. Rost is a Junior Professor (Assistant Professor) and Group Leader in Scanning Tunneling Microscopy at the University of Stuttgart's Institute for Functional Matter and Quantum Technologies. He collaborates with the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, focusing on strongly correlated electron systems and quantum materials at low temperatures. His experimental techniques include Spectroscopic Imaging Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (SI-STM) and thermodynamic studies of single crystals.
Education:
- Diplom thesis at University of Heidelberg (Prof. Hunklinger)
- PhD at University of St Andrews, Scotland (Prof. Andy Mackenzie)
- Postdoc at Cornell University (Prof. Seamus Davis) and University of Tokyo (Prof. Hide Takagi)
Research Interests: Quantum criticality, unconventional superconductors, designer heterostructures, and low-temperature phenomena. His work bridges traditional thermodynamic experiments and modern microscopy techniques.
Team: Current members include Lihui Zhou (Postdoc), Qingyu He (PhD), and Xinglu Que (Master Student). Former members include Jiyeong Kim, Aaron McClendon, and Ivan Pentegov.
Labs: Experiments are conducted at the University of Stuttgart and the MPI's precision lab, focusing on quantum material exploration.
