Prof. Dr. Andreas Thier is a Professor and Chair of Legal History, Ecclesiastical Law, Legal Theory, and Private Law at the University of Zurich. Currently on a one-year fellowship at the Historische Kolleg in Munich (HS 2024/FS 2025), his research focuses on medieval legal systems, church-state relations, and the evolution of canonical texts like the Decretum Gratiani. He leads the Legal History App (LHA) project, offering digital resources for legal history education and research.
Teaching responsibilities include courses like 'History of Commercial Law' and 'State Church and Canon Law,' supported by the LHA platform. He co-organizes the Zurich Debate Evenings on Legal History (ZAA) and contributes to the Humanities Initiative at UZH.
