Andreas Pülz is the Managing Director (interim until March 2024) and Scientific Director of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW), leading the Department of Classical Studies. He holds the academic title of Privatdozent (Associate Professor) and has been affiliated with the ÖAW since 1989. His career includes roles as director of the Institute for the Cultural History of Antiquity and visiting professorships at the University of Graz.
- Education: Studied Protestant Theology, Classical Archaeology, and Ancient History in Vienna and Zurich. Earned his doctorate in Classical Archaeology (1993) and habilitation (2009).
Research focuses on Late Antiquity, Christian and Byzantine Archaeology, and ancient religious history. Key projects include the 'Byzantine Palace of Ephesus,' 'The Bishop's Quarter of Side,' and studies on pilgrimage in Asia Minor. He co-edits the Reallexikon zur Byzantinischen Kunst.

His administrative roles include overseeing the ÖAI's research initiatives and managing interdisciplinary teams in classical studies.
