Dr. Andreas Anton is an Honorary Fellow at Durham University (UK) since July 2023. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg (Germany), focusing on sociological analyses of parapsychology, occultism, and alternative medicine in the GDR. Currently, he works as a Research Associate at the Institute for Frontier Areas of Psychology and Mental Health (IGPP) in Freiburg. His research interests include exosociology (sociological aspects of SETI research) and conspiracy theories. He is the author of the 2023 book Meeting the Alien: An Introduction to Exosociology (Springer).
Education: Studied Sociology, History, and Cognitive Science at Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg. Previous roles include work at Prognos AG (political consulting agency in Basel, Switzerland) and a DFG-funded PhD project on sociological topics in the GDR.
Research focuses on interdisciplinary sociological studies of unconventional topics, including extraterrestrial life, conspiracy theories, and historical sociocultural dynamics. His work bridges sociology, history, and cognitive science.
