Andrea Liese is the chair of the Department of International Organizations and Policies, affiliated with the WZB Berlin Social Science Center's Research Department Global Governance since 2010. She previously served as a visiting researcher at WZB from March to September 2012. Her research focuses on international institutions, norms, transnational human rights, development politics, and governance in areas of limited statehood. She leads subproject D8 ('Talk and Action') in the German Research Foundation (DFG)-sponsored research program SFB 700 on governance in limited statehood and subproject 6 ('Consideration of Expert Knowledge') in DFG group 1745. She contributes to the journal Zeitschrift für Internationale Beziehungen and advises the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP).
Her work examines institutional openness in organizations like the FAO, public-private partnerships in global food governance, and the role of expert knowledge in international public administrations. Key publications include analyses of transnational partnerships for development and the impact of international regimes on state human rights policies. She is developing a book manuscript on transnational public-private partnerships for development and exploring expert authority in international institutions.
