Andrea Futterer

Andrea Futterer is a researcher at the Institute of Political Science within the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Tübingen. She joined the university in 2024 as a research associate with a coordinating role in the IGLO research project (Infrastructures and Global Ordering). Previously, she worked from 2020 to 2023 in the BMBF-funded project 'Public Goods Relevant to the Common Good. The Political Organization of Infrastructure Tasks in the Guarantee State' at the Institute for Political Science (IfP) under Professors Hans-Jürgen Bieling and Matthias Möhring-Hesse.

Her research focuses on social security systems, particularly the German healthcare system, European Union, and infrastructure organization. She has made significant contributions to debates about rural healthcare challenges, medical infrastructure, and policy responses to systemic deficiencies. Recent work examines the intersection of healthcare access, infrastructure planning, and global governance frameworks.

Andrea's publications address the crisis of outpatient care in rural Germany, the political dimensions of healthcare infrastructure, and the structural limitations of current health policies. Her work combines empirical analysis with theoretical frameworks from political economy and governance studies, emphasizing the relationship between healthcare systems and broader societal challenges.

She contributes to academic discourse through publications in edited volumes and journal articles analyzing healthcare infrastructure, and participates in multidisciplinary research projects such as STAY (focused on skilled worker immigration in healthcare) at the Research Institute for Work, Technology and Culture. Andrea maintains active roles in both research coordination and policy analysis within the Institute of Political Science.
