Andre Wiersma

Andre Wiersma is a part-time Lecturer at the Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE), where he oversees the Metal Workshop. With 17 years of experience, he guides students in craftsmanship while maintaining his own artistic studio in Sectie-C. His work emphasizes natural forms and interdisciplinary approaches, inspired by organic geometries and historical design aesthetics.

Education: Andre completed a propaedeutic year at A.I.V.E. (now DAE) in 1991 after a career in model-making at Philips, where he created prototypes for consumer electronics. His craftsmanship philosophy merges technical precision with artistic expression.

Research Interests: Wiersma focuses on metalworking techniques, the integration of nature-inspired design principles, and fostering student craftsmanship through hands-on learning. He advocates for pushing creative boundaries while respecting workshop safety protocols.

Workshop Award: In 2014, he initiated the annual Workshop Award to recognize students who excel in cross-disciplinary craftsmanship, professionalism, and collaborative spirit. The award celebrates students who embody the ethos of skilled, respectful workshop engagement.

Labs/Teams: He oversees the Metal Workshop at DAE and operates his independent studio, where he currently works on a large-scale steel rod self-portrait project.
