Anders Bo Rasmussen

Anders Bo Rasmussen is an Associate Professor of US History at the Center for American Studies, University of Southern Denmark (SDU). He holds a position in the Department of Cultural and Linguistic Studies and serves as Head of Research at the Center for American Studies. His work focuses on the American Civil War, Reconstruction, immigration history, and transnational diplomacy. Rasmussen has held roles including Assistant Professor (2013-2017), National Media Museum curator (2017-2018), and has been a visiting scholar at institutions like Northwestern University and Columbia University.

Research Interests: Rasmussen explores themes such as Scandinavian immigrant experiences during the Civil War, the intersection of race and citizenship, and transatlantic social movements. He has authored books including Civil War Settlers: Scandinavians, Citizenship, and American Empire (2022) and Pio – The Flight to America (2023). His work bridges historical analysis with contemporary societal debates, emphasizing transnational connections.

Selected Awards: He received the Danish American Heritage Society Book Award (2023), Franklin D. Scott Prize (2018), and the Fulbright Scholarship (2016-2017). His grants include the DFF-Research Project 1 Grant (2022) and Carlsberg Foundation Monograph Fellowship (2021-2022).

Advising & Grants: Rasmussen leads projects such as the DKK 2.8 million-funded Transplanting Socialism: Women, Wages, and Whiteness among Danes in Chicago (2022–2025). He has supervised over 189 media contributions and collaborates internationally with institutions like the Salzburg Global Seminar.
