Morten Rasmussen is an Associate Professor at the SAXO-Institute - Archaeology, Ethnology, Greek & Latin, History at the University of Copenhagen. He has been with the institution since 2007, progressing from Adjunct to his current position as Associate Professor in the Promotion Programme. His academic career spans over 15 years of dedicated research and teaching in European history.
His educational background includes a Ph.D. in History and Civilization from the European University Institute (2004), and a Cand.phil. from Aarhus University (1996). He has also completed pedagogical training at the Faculty of Humanities in 2008.
Rasmussen's research focuses on European history in the 20th century with special emphasis on European and international legal history, the history of European integration, Danish European policy after 1945, and the history of football. His work bridges historical analysis with legal and political science perspectives, creating interdisciplinary insights into European integration processes.
His recent publications demonstrate a clear trajectory toward deepening our understanding of European legal integration, particularly through examining the European Court of Justice's historical development. Rasmussen has supervised numerous students and served on examination committees. He has led the Center for Modern European Studies (CEMES) from 2013-2016 and coordinated the research group 'Rethinking European Integration'.
Currently, Rasmussen is working on an archive-based monograph about the history of EU law from 1950 to 1993, titled 'Integration Through Law - The History of the European Court of Justice, 1950-1993', which has received a Monograph Fellowship.
