Anastacia Kohl is a Teaching Professor and Director of Spanish Language Instruction at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also serves as the ROMS Liaison to ARS and the Writing and Learning Center. Dr. Kohl holds an Ed.D. from UNC Chapel Hill (2005), an MAE (1996), and a BA (1994), both from Truman State University.
Her research focuses on alternative language program development, instructional practices for special populations, literature in lower-level language classrooms, course coordination, and teacher professional development. She actively participates in FLANC, ACTFL, and AAUSC, presenting frequently at conferences.
Dr. Kohl has received notable awards, including the 2024 Best of FLANC, 2023 Chapman Family Teaching Award, and 2020 UPCEA Instruction Award. She oversees large courses like SPAN 203 and developed a SPAN 101 course for the Correctional Education Outreach Program. She also advises Psalm 100, a campus a cappella group, since 2013.
Her teaching includes courses like ROML 700, SPAN 204, SPAN 102, and SPAN 105. She supervises Graduate Teaching Fellows and contributes to curriculum design through textbook publications such as Alcanza.
