Ana Carballal is a Professor and Chair at the Department of World Languages and Cultures within Howard College of Arts and Sciences at Samford University. She holds degrees in English philology, Spanish-American Literature, and Spanish and Galician Literature from the University of Santiago de Compostela, the University of Kansas, and the University of Missouri, respectively.
Her research focuses on Galician Nationalism, Iberian Studies, and the Literature of Equatorial Guinea. She has developed courses such as 'Short Stories Spanish,' 'Galician Literature,' 'Literature of Equatorial Guinea,' and 'Cervantes’ Don Quixote,' reflecting her interdisciplinary expertise in Hispanic and Galician studies.
Carballal’s academic leadership includes founding the Master of Arts in Language Teaching (MALT) program and organizing the European Studies Conference. She has also contributed to faculty governance as a member of the Faculty Senate and coordinated study abroad programs in Spain and Mexico.
