About
Ana Alonso is Professor and Interim Director of the BioDiscovery Institute at the University of North Texas, with joint appointment in the Department of Biological Sciences. She directs the BioAnalytical Facility and leads research addressing global challenges in food and energy security.
Research focuses on:
- Mass spectrometry-based metabolomics and 13C-based metabolic flux analysis
- Improving seed and plant metabolism for biofuel and industrial applications
- Understanding plant-microbe interactions
- Metabolism of human fungal pathogens
Current projects include USDA-funded research mapping pathways for industrially relevant fatty acids and NIH-funded studies on intracellular proliferation of fungal pathogens. Her lab develops analytical platforms for metabolic profiling in plants and pathogens.
Laboratory members include postdoctoral researchers and graduate students working on metabolic engineering and plant biotechnology projects.
