Amy J. Good

Dr. Amy J. Good is an Associate Professor in the Department of Reading and Elementary Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte), affiliated with the Cato College of Education. She has over 32 years of experience in public education, focusing on social studies education, teacher preparation, and professional development linked to National Board Certification. She currently serves as Graduate Program Director for the ELED MEd program and Co-Director of the College Honors Program. Her leadership roles include Chair of the College Honors Committee and membership in various university committees.

• B.S. Ed. in Elementary Education, Ohio University (1993)

Research interests emphasize teacher certification, multicultural education, and innovative pedagogical strategies. Her publications span books, book chapters, and peer-reviewed articles addressing teacher preparation, educational technology, and social studies curriculum design. Notable works include co-editing Foundations of Education and Diversity in American Schools (2024) and contributing to research on integrated clinical methods in teacher training.

Awards include finalist recognition for the Bank of America Award for Teaching Excellence (2017, 2023) and the College Award for Teaching Excellence. She has also held National Board-Certified Teacher status (2000-2010).

Advising and grants: Dr. Good has mentored numerous doctoral and master’s students, as evidenced in her co-authored works. Her grants and initiatives include creating a National Board Graduate Certificate program and advancing the Integrated Methods Block model in teacher preparation.

Labs/teams: Active in the Cato College of Education’s Honors Program and collaborates with departments across UNC Charlotte to enhance teacher education curricula and clinical experiences.
