Amy Bentley is Professor of Food Studies at NYU Steinhardt, recipient of NYU's Distinguished Teaching Award and Humanities Fellowship. Historian examining social/cultural contexts of food, she authored James Beard-finalist Inventing Baby Food and co-edited Practicing Food Studies.
Research explores historical/cultural dimensions of hospital food, meat/dairy substitutes, food waste, flavor science, and climate-agriculture linkages. Current projects include Ghanaian climate-smart agriculture initiatives and the Food/COVID-19 NYC digital archive.
Former Editor-in-Chief of Food, Culture & Society and co-founder of NYU Urban Farm Lab/Experimental Cuisine Collective. Serves on editorial boards of multiple food studies journals and book series.
Teaching includes global food systems courses examining cultural intersections of food, migration, and nutrition security.
