Amanda Potterton is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership Studies at the University of Kentucky's College of Education. Her research focuses on the politics of school choice, charter schools, privatization, and the justice implications of educational policies for marginalized student groups. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Evaluation from Arizona State University's Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College.
Before her academic career, she taught special education in New York City as a New York City Teaching Fellow and served as a teacher and school leader in the United Kingdom. Her current research examines how public school stakeholders (parents, students, educators, and community members) interpret and experience school choice policies in local contexts.
Her work addresses systemic inequities in education, particularly for students in poverty, those with special education needs, and English language learners.
