Education includes:
- PhD in Women’s Studies, York University (2004)
- MA in Sociology, Carleton University (1992)
- BA (Hons) in Sociology, Trent University (1989)
Her research explores feminist criminology through anti-carceral and surveillance lenses, with specific focus areas including:
- Gender/racial dimensions of surveillance technologies (CCTV, body-worn cameras)
- Police reform and abolition movements
- Visual culture in criminal justice systems
- Historical and contemporary intersections of law, gender, and power
Publications consistently center on surveillance, gender, and power dynamics within criminological contexts. Recent works (2013-2022) demonstrate a strong trajectory analyzing body-worn cameras, racial/gendered visibility in policing, historical continuities in carceral systems, and feminist critiques of surveillance capitalism. Theoretical approaches blend sociolegal analysis, postcolonial theory, and visual methodologies.
