Alyssa Garcia

Alyssa Garcia is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in Gender and Sexuality Studies and a Weinberg College Adviser at Northwestern University. She earned her BA in Cross-Cultural Psychology from Brown University and her PhD in Anthropology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Her research focuses on the intersections of race, gender, and sexuality in Cuba through analyses of sex-work discourses and state regulation of black female bodies. Key projects include her manuscript Moral Discourses, Regulated Bodies: Sex, the State, and Subjectivity in Cuba, which traces historical ethnographies of bodily control.
