Alya Khan

Dr. Alya Khan is a Senior Lecturer in Health Ethics and Education for Social Justice Lead at the School of Social Sciences and Professions, London Metropolitan University. She holds a BA (Hons) and MPhil from University College London, specializing in ethics and political philosophy, and a PhD from Birkbeck, University of London, focusing on relational autonomy in health contexts. Her teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate programs in health and social care, emphasizing ethics, bioethics, and equity.

Her research explores normative ethical concepts applied to health equity, autonomy in healthcare, and critical pedagogy for social justice. She employs oral history methods to study diasporic experiences of belonging and health disparities. Affiliations include the Society for Women in Philosophy (UK), International Network of Feminist Approaches to Bioethics, and the Global Diversities and Inequalities Research Centre.

Dr. Khan’s work integrates narrative ethics with public philosophy and sociology, advocating for equitable pedagogical practices. She frequently presents at academic conferences and chairs interdisciplinary events, including the launch of the Centre for Life Writing & Oral History.
