Allison Hutchcraft

Allison Hutchcraft is an Assistant Professor of English at the University of North Carolina Charlotte, specializing in creative writing and poetry. She holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing (Poetry) from Purdue University and a B.A. in English from Lewis & Clark College. Her work focuses on ecopoetry, documentary poetics, and the long poem, often exploring themes of environmental degradation, natural history, and human/nature interactions.

Her research and creative output are supported by residencies at Acadia National Park, the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, and the Hambidge Center. Notable awards include a North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship and recognition as a finalist for the Association for the Study of Literature and Environment Book Award. She teaches courses such as Documentary Poetry, Green Poetries, and Writing the Earth, emphasizing interdisciplinary connections between literature and environmental studies.

Her publications include the poetry collection Swale (2020) and numerous poems in journals like Gulf Coast, The Gettysburg Review, and The Kenyon Review. Her work often blends investigative poetics with ecological themes, reflecting a commitment to documenting vanishing landscapes and cultural histories.
