Allison Breit-Smith is Professor in Literacy and Second Language Studies at University of Cincinnati's Teachers College. Her research examines emergent literacy development, particularly in children with language impairments. Focus areas include shared book reading interventions, writing instruction, and language-literacy connections.
Investigates narrative development, writing pauses in children with coordination disorders, and spelling-handwriting relationships. Current projects explore expository book reading interventions and kindergarten writing instruction funded by IES grants.

Coordinates the University of Cincinnati Literacy Center and serves on editorial boards for multiple journals in language pathology and literacy education.
