About
Dr. Alison Twelvetrees is a Research Fellow at the University of Sheffield's School of Medicine and Population Health, working within the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN). Her research focuses on understanding how the microtubule transport system contributes to neuronal health and disease, particularly in the context of neurodegenerative disorders.
Her work explores the molecular mechanisms governing slow axonal transport, using cutting-edge cell biological, biochemical, and biophysical approaches to visualize these processes across various spatial-temporal scales. Her research has implications for diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's, ALS, and HSPs.
Her recent publications highlight her studies on the kinesin-1 family, microtubule repair, dynein localization, and the adaptor proteins involved in motor activation. These works provide insights into both fundamental transport mechanisms and their disruption in disease.
She has received notable awards including the Sir Henry Dale Fellowship and the Vice Chancellor's Fellowship at the University of Sheffield.
Dr. Twelvetrees leads a research team that includes PhD students Evelyn Smith, Ashleigh Davey, and Emma Turner, and her work is supported by various grants aimed at translating findings into potential therapeutic strategies.
