Alison Diaper

Dr Alison Diaper is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), affiliated with the Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences (HAS) and the Centre for Health and Clinical Research (CHCR). She also collaborates with the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board (BNSSG ICB) to facilitate grant applications for health and social care research. Her dual academic and clinical roles focus on knowledge mobilization and evidence-based practice.

Her research spans drug and medical device clinical trials for sleep disorders, anxiety, treatment-resistant depression, opioid misuse, and neuromodulation therapies for neurological conditions like Parkinson's disease. Key projects include paramedic screening for advance care planning in EMS settings and pharmacological strategies for detoxification.

Publications highlight her work in emergency care, palliative care screening, and experimental models of anxiety (e.g., CO2 inhalation studies). She has contributed to randomized controlled trials evaluating medications like buprenorphine/naloxone and glycine reuptake inhibitors. Her studies often involve healthy volunteers and explore cardiovascular outcomes of antidepressants like venlafaxine.

Dr Diaper’s grants and collaborations aim to bridge academic and clinical sectors, advancing translational research in addiction medicine, emergency care, and neuropsychopharmacology. She is actively involved in the BNSSG ICB’s Clinical Effectiveness and Research team, emphasizing practical healthcare solutions.
