Alice J. Hovorka

Alice J. Hovorka is Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change at York University. She holds a PhD from Clark University and leads research on human-environment relations through feminist and posthumanist perspectives.

Her scholarship focuses on animal geographies, examining interspecies relations and power dynamics. Current projects investigate animal governance in Botswana and Canada, exploring animal welfare and rights in various contexts.

Hovorka's work bridges urban studies and gender analysis, particularly in Southern African contexts. Her publications advance theoretical frameworks for understanding species relations and urban sustainability.

As Dean, she promotes interdisciplinary approaches to environmental challenges while maintaining an active research program on animal geographies and gender-environment linkages.
