Alice Hu is an Assistant Professor of Greek, Latin, and Ancient Mediterranean Studies and Humanities at Reed College, affiliated with the Division of Literature and Languages. She specializes in Latin literature of the early imperial period, with particular focus on Vergil's Aeneid and Statius' Thebaid.
Her research examines trauma and PTSD representations in ancient texts, particularly in contexts of civil war narratives. Hu earned her B.A. in Classics and History from Stanford University and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
Prior to Reed, she taught at Gustavus Adolphus College and served as Resident Instructor at the Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome. Her teaching spans Latin/Greek language instruction, Roman topography/history, and interdisciplinary humanities courses.
