Alexis Beatty, MD, MAS, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She holds a joint appointment in the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, and serves as Director of the UCSF MD/MAS program and Faculty Lead of the Training in Clinical Research (TICR) program. Since 2024, she has co-directed the UCSF Cardiac Rehabilitation and Wellness Center. Her research focuses on innovative delivery models for cardiac rehabilitation, leveraging digital health technologies to improve outcomes and reduce disparities in cardiovascular care.
Dr. Beatty's education includes a BSE in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University, an MD from Duke University School of Medicine, and a MAS in Clinical Research from UCSF. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and Cardiology fellowship at UCSF. She also holds a Health Informatics Certificate from the Veterans Health Administration and completed Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Champion Training at UCSF.
Her research interests span digital clinical study methods, cardiovascular prevention, and implementation science. Notably, she developed the VA FitHeart mobile app for cardiac rehabilitation during a VA career development award and contributed to Apple’s heart features and Research app during her 2018–2019 tenure at Apple. Her work emphasizes translating evidence-based practices into scalable solutions, including adapting cardiac rehab programs for breast cancer survivors and optimizing postpartum care for hypertension patients.
Dr. Beatty has received numerous awards, including the Presidential Recognition Award (2021), Haile T. Debas Excellence in Teaching Award (2021), and Health Services Research Career Development Award (2017). Her publications span 200+ peer-reviewed articles, focusing on disparities in cardiac rehabilitation access, digital health innovations, and pandemic-related mental health.
Her mentoring efforts include guiding students, residents, and faculty in cardiovascular research, with a focus on translating research into clinical practice. She leads projects on self-measured blood pressure monitoring and disparities in cardiovascular care, reflecting her commitment to bridging research and real-world healthcare delivery.
