About
Alexandre Simos serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil, and was invited as a visiting professor at Centrale Nantes, France in October 2022 by the Research Laboratory in Hydrodynamics, Energetics and Atmospheric Environment (LHEEA).
His research specializes in marine hydrodynamics with emphasis on offshore and ocean systems, particularly slow-drift motions of floating units in wave environments. Current work bridges oil & gas applications (including deep-draft units) with emerging floating wind turbine technology, alongside active contributions to Brazil's offshore wind energy development through wind potential assessment, regulatory analysis, and industrial planning initiatives.
Professor Simos coordinates R&D projects with industry and government partners, leveraging his prior experience as Department Head (2014-2018) to advance practical engineering solutions in offshore renewable energy systems and marine hydrodynamics.
