Prof. Alexandra Calmy is a Full Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Geneva and serves as Vice-Dean for Clinical Research. She leads the HIV/AIDS Unit at Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) and works within the Division of Infectious Diseases. Her academic journey began at the University of Geneva where she studied medicine, specialized in internal medicine and infectious diseases, and later earned her PhD in HIV/AIDS clinical research from Sydney, Australia (2008).
Research Focus: Prof. Calmy's work centers on three interconnected domains:
- Clinical management of HIV/AIDS and associated comorbidities
- Adverse effects of antiretroviral tritherapies
- Humanitarian crisis response strategies for pandemic containment
She maintains significant global health engagement through:
- Continuous collaboration with Médecins Sans Frontières since 1994
- Chairing WHO working groups on HIV care since 2001
- Leading clinical protocol evaluations at ANRS-MIE (French National AIDS Research Agency)
