Alexander Schiele is a Lecturer in Security Studies at the Berlin School of Economics and Law since 2019, while concurrently pursuing part-time PhD research at the University of Essex's Department of Government. He holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Mannheim (2015) and an MA in Security and Terrorism from the University of Kent (2016). His research focuses on counterterrorism strategies, particularly applying social network analysis to study law enforcement interventions against terrorist cells. He examines structural vulnerabilities in terrorist networks using human and social capital frameworks, analyzing German-based cell data.
His work bridges criminology and political violence studies, addressing transnational threats such as Russian dissident security challenges and legal dimensions of repatriating terror suspects. Publications include analyses of female extremist prosecution in Germany and crime-terror nexus dynamics.
